A new old species of Tetracera (Dilleniaceae) from Espinhaço Range, Brazil

Tetracera is the only genus within Dilleniaceae with a pantropical distribution. During efforts for a taxonomic revision of the neotropical species, we identified incongruences between application of names and their taxonomic identities, based on protologue and type specimen analysis. Two new endemic species of Portulaca (Portulacaceae) from the Brazilian Pampa grasslands

Portulaca L. is a monophyletic, cosmopolitan genus of succulent plants comprising ca 153 species, with particularly high diversity in xerophytic ecosystems in tropical and subtropical regions. Based on morphological evidence, we describe and illustrate two new species from the Brazilian Pampa, Portulaca guaritensis and Portulaca guenoa.

Fruit‐quality tradeoffs generate asymmetry in plant reliance on mutualistic frugivores

Seed dispersal is a fundamental ecological process influencing the evolution of plant life‐history strategies. In fleshy‐fruited plants dispersed by mutualistic frugivores, variation in fruit traits among closely related species may shape the temporal and spatial dynamics of dispersal events critical to population success.
