Fine-scale genetic structure and dispersal in Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis) within Alberta, Canada
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 2006Although mammals are typically characterized by male-biased dispersal, field studies of lynx conflict as to whether dispersal is male-biased or lacks sex-bias. To resolve this issue we dissect fine-scale genetic structure and analyze dispersal in regard to gender using 19 microsatellite loci, teemed with extensive sampling (n = 272 adults) of Canada ...

Dynamics of an Exploited Canada Lynx Population in Ontario
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1987Population structure, mortality, productivity, and condition of lynx (Felis lynx) from zones of distinctly different harvest density and forest type in northeastern Ontario were contrasted. These population parameters were remarkably consistent and showed little variation across the 107,000-km2 study area.

Forest fires and the snowshoe hare-Canada lynx cycle
Oecologia, 1978This paper shows that there is a reasonable coincidence between the Canada lynx cycle and the occurrence of forest and brush fires. Fires set in motion plant succession, potentially leading to an increase in snowshoe hares (Grange, 1965). Snowfall is also correlated with the lynx cycle and tends to account for the variation not accounted for by fires ...

Methodological Comparison of Canada Lynx Density Estimation
2018Reliable population density estimates are critical for ecological research and species management but can be difficult to obtain. Sampling methods like noninvasive genetic sampling and remote camera traps, combined with appropriate statistical models, provide opportunities to estimate density from a variety of approaches.
