Mandibular canal versus inferior alveolar canal: A Delphi study
Clinical Anatomy, 2021AbstractThe general principles of anatomical terminology indicate that the “mandibular canal” should be named the “inferior alveolar canal” as it accommodates the inferior alveolar neurovascular bundles. Therefore, we performed a Delphi study to evaluate the current understanding and use of the terminology in different geographical regions and areas of

Bifid Mandibular Canal in Japanese
Implant Dentistry, 2007The location and configuration of mandibular canal variations are important in surgical procedures involving the mandible, such as extraction of an impacted third molar, dental implant treatment, and sagittal split ramus osteotomy. We report 3 Japanese patients with bifid mandibular canals using panoramic radiograph and multi-slice helical computed ...

The mandibular canal of the edentulous jaw
Clinical Anatomy, 2001AbstractThe morphology of the mandibular canal after loss of teeth has received little detailed attention. Improved documentation of this topic would allow better interpretation of dental radiographs and would enable those engaged in tooth implantation to better understand the nature of the tissue into which the prostheses are placed.

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2013
This paper aims to report and discuss a case in which unusual anatomical variations were observed in the mandibular canal (MC) and the mandibular incisive canal (MIC) in a same patient.A 49-year-old healthy female was referred for mandibular dental implant placement. Panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) were performed.

Position of the mandibular canal
International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1987Because of its numerous advantages, sagittal split osteotomy of the ramus has become the method of choice during the past 30 years. Operative injury to the vascular and nerve bundle within the mandibular canal represents a main risk factor. X-ray studies have been carried out on dry bone material to determine position of the canal.

Root canal morphology of mandibular incisors
Journal of Endodontics, 1992In this study, 100 mandibular central and lateral incisors were used to determine the number of root canals and their types, the ramifications of the root canal, the location of apical foramina, and the frequency of apical deltas. The teeth were immersed in India ink, decalcified, and cleared.

Bifid mandibular canals in panoramic radiographs
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1985The purpose of this study was to identify and classify specific anatomic variations of the mandibular canal for which we have suggested the term "bifid mandibular canals." A total of 6,000 panoramic radiographs were studied, and those that contained these canals were identified.

Position and course of the mandibular canal in skulls
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology, 2012The aim of this study was to examine and describe the topography of the mandibular canal (MC) in both vertical and occlusal dimensions.Fifty-two adult skulls deposited in the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine skull collection were evaluated in this study. Cone-beam computerized tomographic scans of each skull were obtained. The vertical

The mandibular incisive canal is rarely addressed in textbooks but merits attention since it carries neurovascular structures to the mandibular canines and incisors. The mandibular incisive canal originates from the mandibular canal at the level of the mental foramen, and in fact, it is the continuation of the mandibular canal into the interforaminal ...
