Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer

open access: yes, 2007
The contemporary challenge of prostate cancer diagnosis has been changed in the past decade from the endeavor to increase detection to that of detecting only those tumors that are clinically significant. Better interpretation of the role of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and its kinetics as a diagnostic tool, the adoption of extended prostate biopsy ...

Neutralization of the PTX3/CD44 axis suppresses TGF‐β1 signaling in kidney fibrosis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study investigates how the PTX3/CD44 axis promotes kidney fibrosis by activating TGF‐β1 signaling. We demonstrate that the neutralizing antibody WHC‐001 effectively inhibits this pathway, suppressing myofibroblast activation and partial epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT).

Going viral − Virus‐targeting nanobodies for research, diagnostics and therapy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The increasing prevalence of viral diseases represents a major threat for global human health. Nanobodies, small binding fragments derived from camelid heavy‐chain antibodies, offer versatile tools for viral research, diagnostics, and antiviral therapy.

Unlocking the potential of cell‐permeable nanobodies for intracellular applications

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review outlines current strategies for delivery of nanobodies into cells and highlights recent examples of functional applications. By addressing and manipulating intracellular targets, these molecules hold great potential for treating cancer, respiratory diseases and neurological disorders, making this a vibrant area of research in the biomedical

Social disparities and cancer-related stress. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Socioeconomic disparities in health have been demonstrated over a wide range of health outcomes. A differential capacity to cope with stressful life events has been proposed as one mechanism contributing to disparities.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...

Dynamic circulating biomarkers for predicting adverse events in PRaG therapy: a pooled analysis and model construction from PRaG series clinical trials

open access: yesCancer Immunology, Immunotherapy
Background PRaG therapy (PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor combined with Radiotherapy and Granulocyte–macrophage colony-stimulating factor) has emerged as a novel, intensive, and promising combined regimen for advanced solid tumors.

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.
