Single‐Cell Profiling Reveals a Protective WNT5A‐ATF3‐FOSB Signaling Axis in Hair Follicle Stem Cells During Androgenetic Alopecia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a common form of hair loss with limited treatment options. Silencing of WNT5A signaling, which is widely known as the trigger of the ncWNT signaling pathway, happens in hair follicle stem cells from balding areas. It leads to downregulation of ATF3 and its target FOSB.

Aberrant Notch-signaling promotes tumor angiogenesis in esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma

open access: yesSignal Transduction and Targeted Therapy
Esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common gastrointestinal cancers in China, characterized by high malignancy and poor prognosis. Nowadays, the therapeutic options for this cancer are very limited.

Cancer Trends: Cancers of the testis

open access: yes, 2012
An average of 132 cases of testicular cancer was diagnosed per year in Ireland between 1994 and 2010 (Table 1). Almost all cases were microscopically verified (98%) and were germ-cell tumours—57% of which were seminomatous and 40% non-seminomatous ...

A Decoy‐Receptor‐Armed Biomimetic Nanotherapeutic With Inherent Tropism for Conserved Pathogenic Macrophages for Treating Osteoarthritis and Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic doppelgänger nanosystem neutralizes extracellular inflammatory cytokines and silences intracellular pyroptosis, reprogramming pathogenic macrophages to attenuate both joint and spine degeneration. ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis (OA) and intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) are debilitating musculoskeletal disorders driven by shared ...

On the etiology of cancer

open access: yesKazan medical journal, 1926
Schumacher (ref. In Pharm. Centr., 1926. 139) succeeded in making the parasites visible in cancerous tissue using new staining methods. His preliminary work, as well as the work of Warhurg and Erdmann, indicated definitely that lipoproteins play a role in the etiology of cancer.

Cancer Trends: Hodgkin’s lymphoma

open access: yes, 2013
An average of 101 cases of Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL) was diagnosed per year in Ireland between 1994 and 2011, equating to an incidence rate of 2.5 cases per 100,000 per year (Table 1).

TAB2 Causes Neuronal Damage by Aggravating Microglia‐Mediated Neuroinflammation in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In microglia, STAT3 upregulates TAB2, which promotes NF‐κB activation through its NZF domain‐mediated recognition of K63‐linked ubiquitin chains, leading to inflammatory cytokine release and subsequent neuronal injury. Lumacaftor suppresses TAB2 expression and directly binds the TAB2‐NZF domain to interrupt K63 ubiquitin recognition, thereby blocking ...

A Microenvironment‐Adaptive Scaffold Rejuvenates Peripheral Nerve Regeneration During Aging Via Dual Modulation of Ferroptotic Stimuli in Schwann Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
(i) Aging impairs peripheral nerve regeneration via its dual ferroptosis‐mediated pathologies in senescent schwann cells. (ii) The composite nerve conduit is a symbiosis niche integrating microenvironment‐responsive nanoparticles (Ga‐PTAs) and maxillofacial‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (Mmscs).

Diagnosing cancer in an emergency: Patterns of emergency presentation of cancer in Ireland 2002–2015 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Emergency presentation with cancer can result from lack of awareness of symptoms in patients and is generally associated with more advanced stage, limited treatment options and poorer survival outcomes.

An RNA‐Binding Protein RBMS1 Promotes Endothelial Cell Autophagy to Maintain Vascular Homeostasis and Suppress Deep Vein Thrombosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RBMS1, an RNA‐binding protein, restores vascular endothelial homeostasis by enhancing ATG3‐mediated autophagy, thereby attenuating thrombus formation and suggesting a potential avenue for further therapeutic exploration in DVT. ABSTRACT Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a prevalent vascular disorder characterized by aberrant coagulation within the deep ...
