Biofilm formation and genetic variability of BCR1 gene in the Candida parapsilosis complex

Revista Iberoamericana de Micología, 2015
Candida parapsilosis sensu stricto, Candida orthopsilosis, and Candida metapsilosis are cryptic species that belong to the C. parapsilosis complex, which has been increasingly associated to fungemia in various geographic regions, principally due to the capability of these yeasts to form biofilms on indwelling medical devices.

Candidemia Cases Caused by Candida parapsilosis Complex Species: Epidemiology and Antifungal Susceptibility of Strains

Clinical Laboratory, 2023
Candida parapsilosis is a common non-albicans Candida species isolated from blood cultures. The increase in fluconazole-resistant C. parapsilosis complex isolates is worrying, especially in strains with Y132F changes in the ERG11 gene since this ultimately leads to outbreaks.

Characterization of Candida parapsilosis complex strains isolated from invasive fungal infections

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 2011
In the present work, we studied the distribution of Candida parapsilosis complex species and the antifungal susceptibility of clinical isolates collected during an Italian surveillance study of yeast invasive fungal infections (IFIs) in intensive care units (ICUs).

Candida parapsilosiscomplex induces local inflammatory cytokines in immunocompetent mice

Medical Mycology, 2015
Despite the increasing incidence of the Candida parapsilosis complex in the clinical setting and high mortality rates associated with disseminated infection, the host-fungus interactions regarding Candida parapsilosis sensu stricto and the closely related species C. orthopsilosis and C. metapsilosis remains blurred.

Comparison of biofilm-producing ability of clinical isolates of Candida parapsilosis species complex

Journal de Mycologie Médicale, 2019
Candida parapsilosis is one of the main emerging non-Candida albicans species leading to superficial and systemic fungal infections in humans. Candida has the ability to produce biofilms associated with pathogenesis. The aim of the study was to estimate biofilm-producing ability of clinical isolates of C. parapsilosis sp. complex.Clinical samples of C.

The crystal structure of the secreted aspartic protease 1 from Candida parapsilosis in complex with pepstatin A

Journal of Structural Biology, 2009
Opportunistic pathogens of the genus Candida cause infections representing a major threat to long-term survival of immunocompromised patients. Virulence of the Candida pathogens is enhanced by production of extracellular proteolytic enzymes and secreted aspartic proteases (Saps) are therefore studied as potential virulence factors and possible targets ...

Genetic Mutations in FKS1 Gene Associated with Acquired Echinocandin Resistance in Candida parapsilosis Complex

Mycopathologia
Candida parapsilosis complex has recently received special attention due to naturally occurring FKS1 polymorphism associated with high minimal inhibitory concentrations for echinocandin and the increase of clonal outbreaks of strains resistant to commonly used antifungals such as fluconazole. Despite the previous fact, little is known about the genetic
