“Candidatus Rickettsia uralica” and “Candidatus Rickettsia thierseensis” are genetic variants of one species

open access: yesTicks and Tick-borne Diseases, 2022
The spotted fever group is the largest group in the Rickettsia genus, and new candidate species of this group are found throughout the world. "Candidatus Rickettsia thierseensis" was observed in a single Ixodes ricinus in Austria in 2020. However, sequences of five genes (total length: 5305 bp) of the "Candidatus R.

Genome‐Wide Association Study Reveals Insect Genetics and Microbial Symbiont Effects on Susceptibility of Diaphorina citri to the Citrus Greening Pathogen, Candidatus Liberibacter Asiaticus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the genetic and microbial factors influencing the susceptibility of Diaphorina citri to the citrus greening pathogen Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), employing a microbiome Genome Wide Association Study. The research identifies a key gene encoding an MFS‐type transporter contributing to CLas infectivity and abundance in

Seasonal drivers of plant–soil–microbial community structure and functions in Western Himalayan grasslands, Pakistan

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Plant species richness was greater in summer in both alpine and subalpine grassland ecosystems. Soil moisture demonstrates significant positive correlations with soil organic carbon and total nitrogen across seasonal periods. Microbial α‐diversity peaks during summer but maintains functional stability across seasons.

Draft genome sequence of two “Candidatus Intestinicoccus colisanans” strains isolated from faeces of healthy humans

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2023
Objectives In order to provide a better insight into the functional capacity of the human gut microbiome, we isolated a novel bacterium, “Candidatus Intestinicoccus colisanans” gen. nov. sp. nov., and performed whole genome sequencing.

Mapping the subgingival HerBiome and HisBiome over the human healthspan

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Understanding the intricate relationship between sex, age, and the oral microbiome is crucial for deciphering the onset and progression of numerous age‐related oral and systemic diseases. Methods Subgingival plaque was collected from 781 periodontally and systemically healthy females and 160 males spanning 0 to 80 years.

Genomic Expansion of Magnetotactic Bacteria Reveals an Early Common Origin of Magnetotaxis with Lineage-specific Evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The origin and evolution of magnetoreception, which in diverse prokaryotes and protozoa is known as magnetotaxis and enables these microorganisms to detect Earth’s magnetic field for orientation and navigation, is not well understood in evolutionary ...

Multilocus sequence typing of the invasive pest Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) and associated endosymbiont reveals unexplored diversity

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
A multilocus sequence typing approach is proposed to explore Halymorpha halys genetic diversity, taking into consideration both insect nuclear markers and markers from the gut symbiont “Candidatus Pantoa carbekii.” Increased information was revealed regarding the number of distinct holobiont haplotypes in native and invasive populations of the pest ...

Molecular detection of "Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum" in a lion (Panthera leo) from a brazilian zoological garden Detecção molecular do "Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum" em um leão (Panthera leo) de um zoológico brasileiro

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, 2007
Although Mycoplasma haemofelis and "Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum" infections have been reported in wild cats from United States, their presence among native and captive wild cats in Brazil is still unknown. A 12 year old healthy male lion (Panthera
