Huanglongbing (HLB), caused by the bacteria Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las) which colonizes the phloem of citrus plants, is considered the most serious and destructive disease of citrus. Las pathogenicity aspects are not yet understood, hampered by non-cultured condition of the pathogen.
