Candidemia and Invasive Candidiasis
Infectious Disease Clinics of North America, 2021Invasive candidiasis (IC) is a collective term that refers to a group of infectious syndromes caused by a variety of species of Candida, 6 of which cause most cases globally. Candidemia is probably the most commonly recognized syndrome associated with IC; however, Candida can cause invasive infection of any organ, especially visceral organs ...

Fifty five clinically diagnosed cases of neonatal septicaemia of the nursery ward, Medical College Hospital Calcutta were subjected to blood culture on two consecutive days in all cases. Bacterial isolates were found in 34 (61.8%) cases as pure growth and candida species from 9 (16.4%) as pure culture.

Nosocomial fungal infections: candidemia
Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 1999Candida species are frequently encountered as part of the human commensal flora. Colonization mostly precedes candidemia and is an independent risk factor for the development of candidemia. Genotyping methods showed the similarity between colonizing and infecting strains, thus making endogenous origin likely, though exogenous sources like total ...

The Sterifil lysis-filtration (SLF) blood culture technic was compared with a standard trypticase soy broth (TSB) procedure for the detection of candidemia. Of a total of 3,554 blood cultures run in parallel, 29 Candida isolates were obtained with the SLF technic, whereas only 17 were recovered with the TSB method, a statistically significant ...

Candidemia in Immunocompromised Patients
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1992This study reviews data on patients with fungemia and confirms the high prevalence (50%) of infections caused by non-albicans species of Candida. Fungemia due to C. albicans or Torulopsis glabrata occurred significantly more often in patients with a solid tumor, while fungemia due to Candida tropicalis or Candida krusei was significantly more common in

Candidemia in HIV-Infected Subjects
European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 1999The epidemiological features of 37 episodes of candidemia in HIV-infected subjects were analysed in a retrospective matched case-control study conducted over an 8-year period (1990-1997). Univariate analysis identified eight risk factors that were significantly associated with candidemia ...
