Epidemiology of candidemia in lung transplant recipients and risk factors for candidemia in the early posttransplant period in the absence of universal antifungal prophylaxis

Transplant Infectious Disease, 2022
Lung transplant recipients are at increased risk of candidemia, especially in the early posttransplant period. However, the specific predisposing factors have not been established.

Determinants of Candidemia and Candidemia-Related Death in Cardiothoracic ICU Patients

Chest, 2003
To develop and prospectively validate models of independent predictors of candidemia and candidemia-related death in cardiothoracic ICU (CICU) patients.(1) An initial, prospective, one-center, case-control, independent predictor-model determining study; and (2) a prospective, two-center, model-validation study. The initial study was performed at the 14 ...

Candidemia After Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Southern Medical Journal, 1995
We report a case of candidemia associated with manipulation of the common bile duct during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. The patient had received parenteral nutrition and prolonged antibiotic therapy before the procedure and before Candida tropicalis was grown from blood cultures. Antifungal therapy resulted in clinical response.

Venous catheter-associated candidemia

The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 1978
Fifty-five patients with venous catheter-associated candidemia were seen over a 13-year period. Thirty-five patients recovered from the infection. Twenty-six of these patients became afebrile within 72 hours of catheter removal; none were treated with systemic antifungal agents.

Quantitative Blood Cultures in Candidemia

Mayo Clinic Proceedings, 1991
The relationship between quantitative data on peripheral blood cultures and source of infection was studied in 172 episodes of candidemia that occurred in 169 patients. Clinically, the source of candidemia was an intravascular device in 67 episodes, an extravascular source in 73 episodes, and endocarditis in 2 patients; no source was identified for the

Risk Factors for Breakthrough Candidemia

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 2002
In order to assess the risk factors for breakthrough candidemia (candidemia occurring in patients receiving at least 3 days of systemic fluconazole or amphotericin B), 270 cases of candidemia occurring in two tertiary hospitals were analyzed. Using multivariate analysis, profound neutropenia (

Hospital-Acquired Candidemia

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1988
• Between 1977 and 1984, estimates of hospital-acquired bloodstream infections caused byCandidaspecies increased in the United States from 0.5 to 1.5 per 10000 admissions (National Nosocomial Infection Study data). We examined crude and attributable mortality rates and excess length of stay in 88 closely matched pairs of cases and controls with ...

FLUCONAZOLE THERAPY IN NEONATAL CANDIDEMIA

American Journal of Perinatology, 2000
We reviewed 62 episodes (from 59 infants) of neonatal candidemia that occurred between January 1994 and June 1999. Except 5 term babies, all infants were premature (median gestational age [GA], 30 weeks) and birth weight was less than 2,500 g (median, 1,300 g). Most infants had reported risk factors and other neonatal problems.

Candidemia, look at the eyes

Intensive Care Medicine, 1988
Two patients with disseminated candidiasis are presented. The diagnosis was established by fundoscopy. Candida endophthalmitis can be the only manifestation of disseminated candidiasis. The role of fundoscopy in the management of candidemia is emphasized because it can provide evidence of disseminated disease.

Candidiasis and Candidemia

Journal of Advancement in Medicine, 1999
Systemic distribution of the ubiquitous enteric fungus, Candida albicans (C Alb) may require less opportunism than had previously been considered. High enteric levels of C Alb have demonstrated the ability to spill-over in significant numbers into the host's peripheral circulation.
