On the Amount of Moderation in the CANDU Lattice
Nuclear Technology, 2020Throughout the years, various reports and training manuals on CANada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) reactors have mentioned that the CANDU lattice is overmoderated.

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 1983
Abstract How Canada's successful CANDU ( CAN ada D euterium U ranium) nuclear power reactors would benefit from an emerging hydrogen-electric economy and vice versa is discussed with reference to the Combined Electrolysis Catalytic Exchange (CECE) process for recovering byproduct heavy water from electrolytic hydrogen.

Scenarios for the Transmutation of Actinides in CANDU Reactors
18th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering: Volume 1, 2010With world stockpiles of used nuclear fuel increasing, the need to address the long-term utilization of this resource is being studied. Many of the transuranic (TRU) actinides in nuclear spent fuel produce decay heat for long durations, resulting in significant nuclear waste management challenges.

Properties of a Candu Calandria Tube
Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1985AbstractWe have destructively examined the Zircaloy-2 calandria tube which surrounded a pressure tube that ruptured in Pickering Unit 2 Nuclear Generating Station. The calandria tube was in excellent condition and had sustained little damage. The material was hardened by neutron irradiation.

Advanced technologies for CANDU reactors
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1993Abstract The inherent features of a reactor based on multiple pressure tubes, rather than a single pressure vessel, provide CANDU with considerable flexibility for continuous design improvements. Of particular significance is the presence of a large volume of cool heavy-water moderator within the core.

Excellent neutron economy and on-line refuelling allow CANDU reactors to operate on a variety of fuel cycles. Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) has an on-going program exploring fuel options [1,2]. The motivation includes fissile resource extension, fuel cycle economics, and waste management, environmental, political and strategic considerations ...

The Economics of the Candu Reactor
1984The purpose of this chapter is to: 1. Discuss the cost of producing electricity from CANDU-Pressurized Heavy Water (PHW) nuclear generating units. 2. Present actual cost experience of CANDU units in Ontario Hvdro. 3. Compare CANDU cost experience with fossil (coal) experience in Ontario Hydro. 4.
