Validation and determination of a reference interval for Canine HbA1c using an immunoturbidimetric assay [PDF]
Background: Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) provides a reliable measure of glycemic control over 2–3 months in human diabetes mellitus. In dogs, presence of HbA1c has been demonstrated, but there are no validated commercial assays. Objective: The purpose

The effects of inhomogeneities on scroll-wave dynamics in an anatomically realistic mathematical model for canine ventricular tissue [PDF]
Ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) are lethal rhythm disorders, which are associated with the occurrence of abnormal electrical scroll waves in the heart. Given the technical limitations of imaging and probing, the in situ visualization of these waves inside cardiac tissue remains a challenge.

Canine lymphoma: a review [PDF]
Canine lymphoma (cL) is a common type of neoplasia in dogs with an estimated incidence rate of 20-100 cases per 100,000 dogs and is in many respects comparable to non-Hodgkin lymphoma in humans. Although the exact cause is unknown, environmental factors and genetic susceptibility are thought to play an important role.

In this study, variation and genetic basis of ionome among Tartary buckwheat population are investigated, illuminating their significance in the domestication and diversification of Tartary buckwheat. And three genes (FtACA13 for Na content, FtYPQ1 for Zn content, FtNHX2 for As content) are identified with the dominant haplotypes and functional ...

Chromosomal breaks at the origin of small tandem DNA duplications
Small tandem DNA duplications form a specific mutational signature frequently found in human disease alleles and cancer genes. Here we hypothesize that these duplications mainly arise at chromosomal DNA breaks that result from two closely located single‐stranded nicks, through error‐prone repair by the non‐homologous end‐joining pathway. Abstract Small

Dogs are more pessimistic if their owners use two or more aversive training methods
Domestic dogs are trained using a range of different methods, broadly categorised as reward based (positive reinforcement/negative punishment) and aversive based (positive punishment/negative reinforcement).
