Semen Examination in Dogs with Canine Brucellosis
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1979SUMMARY Serial changes in seminal morphology of dogs with experimentally induced Brucella canis infection were determined. Semen from infected dogs was examined each week until postinfection (pi) week 35 in 6 dogs, and intermittently in 2 dogs beginning pi week 60 and in 2 other dogs at pi week 100.

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1974SUMMARY A serologic survey of 228 dogs in the Nashville, Tennessee, area demonstrated a prevalence of Brucella canis antibodies indicative of active infection to be approximately 3½ times greater in stray dogs than in non-stray dogs.

A Plate Agglutination Test for the Rapid Diagnosis of Canine Brucellosis
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1974SUMMARY A plate agglutination test for the rapid detection of antibodies against Brucella canis, using a killed and stained whole cell culture of Brucella ovis, was developed and evaluated. Maximal agglutination occurred within 5 minutes after B ovis plate antigen was added to serums containing B canis antibodies.

Scrotal and Testicular Changes in Canine Brucellosis: A Case Report
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1978SUMMARY An Irish Setter with scrotal enlargement had an agglutination titer to Brucella canis of ≥ 1:200, but B canis was not cultured from the blood. Unusual findings included draining ulcers in the scrotum from which B canis was cultured, a necrotic testicle, and inflammation of the entire scrotum.

It originally was observed in the USA, but recently it has been discovered in Japan, Mexico, Peru, Germany and, possibly, in Brazil.
