Genetic Evolution and Biological Characteristics of Feline Caliciviruses Isolated from Dogs

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Feline calicivirus (FCV) is a highly contagious pathogen associated with oral and upper respiratory tract diseases (URTD), and it is also possibly considered as an enteric pathogen. Some studies found FCV‐like viruses in the enteric tract of dogs, but there was a lack of understanding regarding the epidemiology and biological properties of FCVs in dogs.

SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Dogs and Cats: Facts and Speculations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
SARS-CoV-2 recognizes a probable zoonotic origin, since the virus likely descends from a bat betacoronavirus, strictly related to the one responsible for the 2002–2003 SARS epidemic (SARS-CoV), which was transmitted to humans directly or through ...

Dynamics of Feline Coronavirus and FIP: A Compartmental Modeling Approach

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
The investigation of infectious agents invading human and nonhuman populations represents a rich research domain within the framework of mathematical biology, captivating the interest of scientists across various disciplines. In this work, we examine the endemic equilibrium of feline coronavirus and feline infectious peritonitis by using a modified ...

Epidemiology and Molecular Characterizations of Coronavirus from Companion Animals Living in Chengdu, Southwest China

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
The recent COVID‐19 pandemic has once again caught the attention of people on the probable zoonotic transmission from animals to humans, but the role of companion animals in the coronavirus (CoV) epidemiology still remains unknown. The present study was aimed to investigate epidemiology and molecular characterizations of CoVs from companion animals in ...

Molecular Characterization of Feline Chaphamaparvovirus (Carnivore chaphamaparvovirus 2) Firstly Detected in Dogs from China

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
A new type of parvovirus known as feline chaphamaparvovirus (FeChPV) was discovered in the feces of shelter cats in Canada in 2019, and >50% of cats were reported to be infected with this virus. In this study, two FeChPV‐positive samples were identified from the rectal swabs of 285 dogs with diarrhea but none in 50 healthy dogs.

Retrospective Detection and Phylogenetic Analysis of Cachavirus‐Related Parvoviruses in Dogs in China

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Cachavirus (CachaV) infection was first reported in the USA in 2019. This virus has been previously detected in pet dogs and cats in China. In the present study, we retrospectively examined this virus in 413 dogs and 127 cats. Swab samples obtained from these animals were collected during 2015–2017.

Identification and phylogenetic analysis of two canine coronavirus strains

open access: yesAnimal Diseases, 2021
Canine coronavirus (CCoV), a member of the genus Alphacoronavirus, is an enveloped, single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus that responsible for gastroenteritis in dogs. In this study, two CCoV isolates were successfully propagated from 53 CCoV-positive

Clinical Evaluation of a Rapid Diagnostic Test Kit for Canine Parvovirus and Coronavirus

open access: yesKorean Journal of Clinical Laboratory Science, 2023
Canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) and canine coronavirus (CCoV) are major pathogens that can induce gastroenteritis in dogs. They are highly contagious and have a high morbidity rate. There are no specific treatments available for them to date. Therefore,
