Relationships Between European Wildcats and Domestic Cats in an Area of Sympatry: Exploring Key Conservation Questions on Hybridization and Disease Transmission

We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

Differential Susceptibility May Not Drive Chytridiomycosis Related Declines in Multi‐Host Amphibian Communities

We investigated how Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) affects multi‐host amphibian communities in Tasmania, Australia. Despite differential susceptibility, we found no evidence of population declines in susceptible species, suggesting that current environmental conditions may buffer communities against Bd impacts.

Neurotoxic potential of reactive astrocytes in canine distemper demyelinating leukoencephalitis

Canine distemper virus (CDV) causes a fatal demyelinating leukoencephalitis in young dogs resembling human multiple sclerosis. Astrocytes are the main cellular target of CDV and undergo reactive changes already in pre-demyelinating brain lesions.
