Computational fluid dynamics simulations of airflow through the nasal passages of rhinolophoid bats

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The nasal passages of bats that emit their echolocation call through their nostrils have adapted for sound emission as well as standard respiratory and olfactory functions. Rhinolophids, hipposiderids and rhinonycterids all use a high duty cycle (HDC) echolocation strategy.

Dental anomalies in Pleistocene African hippopotamuses from Olduvai Bed II

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Hippopotamuses are key palaeoenvironmental indicators in African Pleistocene ecosystems due to their ecological dependence on permanent water bodies and their frequent representation in the fossil record. This study examines dental anomalies in Hippopotamus cf. gorgops from several localities in Bed II of Olduvai Gorge (Tanzania), dated to ca.

Multivariate Analysis of Hematological Stress Biomarkers and Welfare Domains in Organic and Intensive Pig Farming in Italy: A Pilot Study

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Intensive or organic farming systems may expose pigs to management or environmental challenges. Our preliminary results concluded that organic farming might enhance adaptive immune function, showing that improvements in welfare can translate into measurable immunological benefits, based on the correlation between welfare assessment and physiological ...

From anthelmintic to neuro‐oncology: A systematic review of mebendazole repurposing for brain tumour therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim Mebendazole (MBZ), a benzimidazole anthelmintic with established clinical use, has emerged as a repurposing candidate for primary brain tumours due to its multimodal anticancer actions and central nervous system penetrance. This systematic review synthesizes preclinical and clinical evidence evaluating MBZ's efficacy, mechanisms of action ...
