Multi‐scalar habitat selection unveils ecological domains in wolves when selecting rendezvous sites

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, EarlyView.
Although habitat generalists, wolves may become particularly choosy when locating homesites (i.e., dens and rendezvous sites) especially in human‐modified landscapes. Using a multiscale approach, we investigated rendezvous sites (RV) selection in a historical stronghold of wolves in central Italy. Human infrastructure (i.e.

Exploring the effects of anthropogenic habitat change on Euplerid carnivore occupancy in a humid evergreen forest, south‐east Madagascar

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, EarlyView.
We collected camera trap data of small carnivores in Tsitongambarika Nouvelle Aire Protégée, south‐east Madagascar, and detected four endemic Euplerid species, that is, Cryptoprocta ferox, Fossa fossana, Galidia elegans, and Galidictis fasciata, and three non‐native species, that is, Viverricula indica, Canis familiaris, and Felis sp.

The Potential for Subordinate Predator Release in Terrestrial Mammalian Carnivore Assemblages

open access: yesMammal Review, EarlyView.
Results from the literature review showed that the potential for release is not strictly size‐based and could occur between pairs not usually considered ‘apex’ or ‘meso’ There was equal representation of felids and canids as dominant predators, but subordinate predators were more commonly canids. ABSTRACT Mesopredator release occurs when the decline of
