Quantification of bone strength by intraoperative torque measurement: a technical note [PDF]
Introduction: Bone strength describes the resistance of bone against mechanical failure. Bone strength depends on both the amount of bone and the bone's quality, and the bone strength may be looked upon as a relevant parameter to judge an osteosynthesis'

Femoral Neck Fracture With Anterior Tilt
In patients with OTA/AO type 31B femoral neck fractures, anterior tilt fractures were more common among females and those with valgus malalignment. Although outcomes and complication rates did not differ significantly among fracture patterns, patients with displaced fractures had a higher risk of developing femoral neck necrosis.

Perioperative Factors Associated With Allogeneic Blood Transfusion in Elective THA
Early postoperative hematocrit is the strongest and most clinically useful predictor of transfusion risk after primary THA, while cup inclination has minimal discriminative value. A hematocrit threshold of < 0.28 L/L reliably identifies high‐risk patients and should guide transfusion‐related decision‐making.

Background Pedicle screws can be augmented with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cement through cannulated and fenestrated pedicle screws to improve screw anchorage. To overcome the drawbacks of PMMA, a modified augmentation technique applying a self-curing

Variability of the pullout strength of cancellous bone screws with cement augmentation [PDF]
Background Orthopaedic surgeons often face clinical situations where improved screw holding power in cancellous bone is needed. Injectable calcium phosphate cements are one option to enhance fixation. Methods Paired screw pullout tests were undertaken in

Abstract figure legend During infection, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is produced and elicits warmth‐seeking behaviour and involuntary febrile responses by acting on prostaglandin EP3 receptors (EP3Rs) in two distinct brain sites. PGE2 acting on EP3Rs on neurons in the external lateral part of the lateral parabrachial nucleus (LPBel) augments cold sensory ...

Fractura subtrocantérica tras fijación percutánea con tornillos de fracturas no desplazadas en el cuello femoral : presentación de tres casos y revisión de la literatura [PDF]
Objective. To show 3 cases of subtrochanteric fracture as complication of screw fixation for femoral neck undisplaced fractures. Material and methods. We present 3 cases of subtrochanteric fractures after screw fixation of valgus impacted femoral neck ...
