On the Sensitivity of the Canonical Angles of a Unitoid Matrix
Numerical Analysis and Applications, 2022Summary: A unitoid matrix is a square complex matrix that can be brought to diagonal form by a Hermitian congruence transformation. The canonical angles of a nonsingular unitoid matrix \(A\) are (up to the factor \(1/2)\) the arguments of the eigenvalues of the cosquare of \(A\), which is the matrix \(A^{-*}A\). We derive an estimate for the derivative

A variational characterization of canonical angles between subspaces
Journal of Geometry, 2003The min-max characterization is given for canonical (or principal) angles between two subspaces of an \(n\)-dimensional unitary space using recursively constructed pairs of vectors from inner products.

Hannay's angles and canonical transformations
Physics Letters, Section A: General, Atomic and Solid State Physics, 1993Abstract The family of Hamiltonians obtained by the action of a group of canonical transformations is considered. The formula for Hannay's angles is derived which allows us to express them in terms of the geometry of a group. The Berry formula relating Hannay's angles and Berry's phase is rederived.

Canonical principal angles correlation analysis for two-view data
Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation, 2016Our method considers the correlation of two views, and exploits the local geometric structure of data. The correlation of two views is measured by the angle between their principle components. We introduce manifold regularization to maintain the local geometric.

From Subadditive Inequalities of Singular Values to Triangle Inequalities of Canonical Angles
SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 2010Let \(A,B\) be \(m \times n\) matrices over the field of complex numbers and let \(C=A+B\). A number of subadditive inequalities between the eigenvalues/singular values of \(A,B\) and \(C\) have been discovered by many mathematicians, that include K. Fan, V. B. Lidskii, H. Wielandt, R. C. Thompson, A. Horn, over a period of time.

Lip-movement based speaker recognition using fusion of canonical angles
2014 13th International Conference on Control Automation Robotics & Vision (ICARCV), 2014A method is presented for authenticating people on the basis of lip movement. It uses the kernel mutual subspace (KMS) method using fusion of canonical angles by kernel Fisher discriminant analysis. Its authentication accuracy is better than that of previously proposed lip-movement authentication methods when the distribution of lip images has a ...

3D Object Recognition Based on Canonical Angles between Shape Subspaces
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2011We propose a method to measure similarity of shape for 3D objects using 3-dimensional shape subspaces produced by the factorization method. We establish an index of shape similarity by measuring the geometrical relation between two shape subspaces using canonical angles. The proposed similarity measure is invariant to camera rotation and object motion,
