The Canons of Dordt were drafted by a committee that kept no minutes, and the Acta of the Synod are also silent on this period since there were no public sessions. Nevertheless, over one hundred archival documents relating to the drafting of the Canons have been preserved in various archives in the Netherlands, Switzerland, and England.

Despite the fact that the so-called “Five Points of Calvinism” are based on the five main points of the Canons of Dordt, it is misleading to assume that these five points are drawn directly from Calvin. The documents of the Synod of Dordt rarely refer to any theological source, including Calvin.
