Management and incipient domestication of Chamaedorea tepejilote in agroforestry systems in Mexico

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Native wild plants are key elements in addressing global biodiversity loss and supporting sustainable food systems. We investigated how rural communities in Mexico manage Chamaedorea tepejilote, a wild palm with edible male inflorescences, by combining ethnobotanical, genetic, morphological and ecological approaches.

Forest canopy cover and canopy closure: comparison of assessment techniques

European Journal of Forest Research, 2009
The article, in relation to the importance of canopy cover as stand density and biodiversity indicator, describes the main related field measurement techniques. In particular the authors emphasize the distinction between canopy cover and canopy closure when forest cover is usually measured through the current techniques.

A relascope for measuring canopy cover

Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 2008
Angle count or relascope sampling has traditionally been used in forestry to estimate stand basal area. In this paper, we present an extension to the basal area relascope, the crown relascope, which differs from the normal relascope in that the relascope’s slot is very high and wide.

EFFECT OF CANOPY COVER ON THE VOLUME OF RAIN THROUGHFALL

Proceedings of the Water Environment Federation, 2004
Stormwater runoff has become increasingly difficult for municipalities to manage as areas experience development. This increase in residential and commercial development has led to a substantial reduction in the natural canopy cover, and post-development plantings have not begun to replace the loss. This study was carried out to establish the extent to
