Intraspecific Trait Variation in Seedlings Reveals Independence Between Leaf and Root Traits but a Lack of an Independent “Collaboration Axis” Belowground

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions
Plant functional traits help determine resource acquisition strategies. Global trends at the interspecific scale suggest independence between leaf and root traits described by three functional dimensions: resource acquisition above‐ and belowground and ...

The Art of Reception: Field Visits as Microcosms for Development Interventions of Non‐Governmental Organisations in Uganda

open access: yesJournal of International Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Field visits are common phenomena with non‐governmental organisations in Uganda. During these visits, Ugandan national staff guide visitors on series of meetings and interactions in the field. Following an actor‐oriented approach and drawing on ethnographic data on 14 field visits, this paper understands the field visit as a microcosm for the ...

Comparison of optical and digital techniques for light microclimate assessment in the Paneveggio Forest, Trentino, Italy

open access: yesForest@, 2006
Hemispherical photography is a widely used tool for the indirect estimation of forest light environment and quantification of canopy openness, LAI, and direct and diffuse canopy light transmittance.

SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION AND POPULATION STRUCTURE OF PALMS (ARECACEAE) IN A FOREST FRAGMENT OF LOWLAND DENSE HUMID FOREST IN SOUTH BRAZIL

open access: yesCiência Florestal, 2015
In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the Dense Humid Forest is reduced to less than 5% of its original cover. However, it still has the highest richness of palms in this state, which constitute an important and economically relevant group.

Emerging Issues for Counselors Applying Neuroscience With Black Clients: Avoiding Scientific Racism

open access: yesJournal of Multicultural Counseling and Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Neuroscience‐infused methods are heavily impacting the manner in which counselors, educators, and researchers approach working with clients and conducting research. While some scholars perceive neuroscience as scientifically objective and culturally neutral, that is not entirely true.

Characterising City Scale Heat Climatology for Australian Climate Zones

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect in Australian cities peaks at night, intensifying under dry conditions, clear skies, increased solar radiation, and low wind speeds. Long‐term observations show that nighttime temperatures in major cities have warmed faster than their rural surroundings and future climate projections fail to capture this disparity ...

Climatic Drivers of the Area Burned by Winter Wildfires in Northern Italy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study investigates winter wildfires occurring between November and April in northern Italy over the period 2008–2022. By integrating high‐resolution burned‐area data with gridded climatic indices derived from 150 weather stations, it identifies spatial and temporal wildfire patterns, highlights the most fire‐prone mountain areas through pixel ...

Intercomparison of a Regional Climate Model Ensemble for Selected European Catchments

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study analyzes a regional climate model ensemble for water cycle and water resource research with two models. Results show that ICON generally outperforms TSMP1 simulations, mainly with 2‐m temperature and precipitation. These findings serve as a baseline evaluation that shows how key structural differences influence the model skill.

Wheat Wild Relatives and Modern Cultivars Differ for Salt Resistance in Terms of Morpho‐Physiological Traits

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
Wheat wild relatives are untapped genetic resources from salinity and drought hit areas. This study presents differential comparative morphophysiological responses of these species and modern wheat cultivars under saline conditions. Salt resistant species produce more shoot and root biomass under saline conditions through salt exclusion and/or tissue ...
