Characterizing vineyard‐specific differences in Pinot Noir grape composition in relation to soil properties and rhizosphere microbial communities

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Grape berry chemical composition is closely linked to wine quality and provides important information for vineyard management. However, the relationships between berry composition, vineyard soil conditions and rhizosphere microbial communities remain insufficiently understood.

Plasma‐activated water processing and storage time impacts pea microgreens yield and quality

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Plasma‐activated water (PAW) is emerging as a sustainable input capable of enhancing crop yield and quality while reducing dependence on synthetic fertilizers. However, how PAW chemistry evolves during storage and how these dynamics translate into crop growth and quality remain poorly understood.

A soil temperature and energy balance model for integrated assessment of Global Change impacts at the regional scale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The investigation of the impact of Global Change on the basic resources on which life, and man, depends, is the main objective of the environmental science community at the beginning of the 21st century. Advances in information technology, new methods of

Ringtail (Bassariscus astutus) survival in southwestern Oregon

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We captured and monitored radio‐collared ringtails over 2 years to estimate monthly and annual survival rates. We found that annual survival rates were much higher within forested landscapes in Oregon than for populations in the southwestern United States.

Living on the edge: Habitat characteristics of northern myotis at the periphery of its distribution

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Northern myotis selected tall trees with minimal decay, in patches with other roosting options. In our study area, these trees occurred in narrow bands within an agricultural matrix, differing from contiguous forest at the core of the species' distribution. Nevertheless, bats selected the tallest trees in the densest patches available.

Landscape drivers of scaled quail occurrence across a broad spatiotemporal scale: implications for habitat management

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Combining large‐scale avian surveys with remote sensing products revealed landscape variables that likely limit scaled quail occurrence at the ecoregion scale in Texas. Promoting management practices that address ecoregion‐specific limiting factors may be key to averting further declines.
