Two Atlantic Cadlina species (Cadlina pellucida and Cadlina laevis) from European coasts have been subjected to chemical investigation. The new furanosesquiterpene laevidiene (1) has been isolated, together with other previously reported compounds, from C. laevis and its structure has been determined by spectroscopic methods.

Decapod crustaceans in the diets of demersal fish in the Cantabrian Sea

The diets of 14 species of demersal fish, representing 81% of the fish biomass of the Cantabrian Sea (ICES Division VIIIc), were determined in the spring and autumn of 1988 from the analysis of 6536 stomachs. Decapod crustaceans represented 54.3% of the diet of these fish in frequency of occurrence and 22.1% in percentage by volume.

Composition and structure of the invertebrate megabenthos on the shelf of the Cantabrian Sea

The epibenthic communities of decapod crustaceans and cephalopod molluscs found in Cantabrian Sea trawls (ICES Division VIIIc) are described. Statistical analysis of hierarchical classification (clustering) methods was used to segregate samples and species into discrete communities and to allow study of their zoogeographical distribution.

Defensive allomones in three species ofHypselodoris (gastropoda: Nudibranchia) from the Cantabrian sea

ThreeHypselodoris species,H. villafranca, H. cantabrica, and H. tricolor, have been studied in order to further investigate the defensive strategies of Chromodorididae mollusks from Iberian coasts. All animals possess large amounts of furanosesquiterpenoids, probably derived from their diet of sponges.
