Environmental Preferences and Functional Variations of Methanotrophs in Northeast Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau Wetlands

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Significant environmental preference between type I and type II methanotrophs is regulated by soil ion concentration (pH and electrical conductivity) in wetlands. Type II methanotrophs (Methylocystis, etc.) contributes more to soil methane oxidation than type I methanotrophs.

A distributed large‐volume soil sampling approach to address spatial heterogeneity in eDNA data collection

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 6, Page 1726-1734, June 2026.
Abstract Soil sampling for eDNA is a useful approach to assess ecological communities in specific locations, such as comparing community composition across different site treatments. However, species' dispersal abilities and habitat selection, among many other factors, drive the uneven distribution of organisms across the landscape. Thus, to accurately

Environmental DNA Reveals Major Shifts in Fish and Amphibian Diversity and Distribution in Alpine Lentic Ecosystems of Southwest China, Supporting Improved Conservation and Management

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Alpine lentic ecosystems are naturally fish‐poor or fish‐free, yet they have received numerous non‐native fish introductions globally. Studies have demonstrated that alien fish have negative impacts on aquatic organisms, particularly amphibians, which are highly susceptible to habitat alterations.

A Meta‐Analysis of the Effects of Acute Sleep Deprivation on the Cortical Transcriptome in Rodent Models

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 3, June 2026.
How does sleep deprivation affect the brain? We performed a meta‐analysis of publicly available transcriptional profiling datasets characterising the effects of sleep deprivation on cortical gene expression (n = 293 mice, 16,290 genes) and validated our results in an independent sample (n = 222 mice).

Testing eDNA Sampling Approaches in Tropical Waterways for Citizen Science and Conservation Applications

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Citizen science is increasingly popular but requires training and modifications to sampling procedures so that volunteer‐collected environmental DNA (eDNA) samples can be included in biodiversity surveys. In this study, we optimised methodology for a citizen science project targeting fish taxa; ensuring simple, safe and effective eDNA sampling.
