A quantitative analysis to detect mass mortality events (wrecks) in Procellariiformes
Our study provides the first systematic assessment of seabird mass mortality events in the South Atlantic and introduces a transferable statistical framework for detecting MMEs in other taxa and regions lacking baseline mortality information. By identifying recurrent temporal anomalies, high‐risk areas and vulnerable species, we could establish ...

Summary According to the enemy release hypothesis (ERH), the fitness of exotic plants and their capacity to become invasive in their area of introduction may partly be attributable to the loss of their natural enemies. Invasive species may also benefit from modifying soil attributes and thereby creating a positive soil–plant feedback.

We modeled the current and future distributions of seven Geositta species along elevational gradients in South America under two climate change scenarios. Our results show that most species are projected to lose suitable habitats, particularly under the high‐emission scenario, with distinct responses between lowland and highland taxa.

Physiological roles of lignins – tuning cell wall hygroscopy and biomechanics
Summary Lignins constitute the second most abundant carbon‐storing biopolymers in the biosphere. These phenolic polymers accumulate in different concentrations, compositions, and localisations within and between cell wall layers and cell types. Lignins were acquired during plant terrestrialisation 450 million years ago, and the diversification of their

Growth–survival trade‐off in temperate trees is weak and restricted to late‐successional stages
Our findings highlight a role of disturbances in filtering life‐history strategies and their potential impact on forest dynamics and global carbon cycling, but also a need to better understand the mediating processes of tree demographic trade‐offs.

Both local and landscape factors associated with habitat availability and quality determine the persistence of stingless bees across fragments. Places where the species occurs have local and landscape characteristics distinctive from those where it is absent.
