The capacitive sensing electrodes on the top of a CMOS chip serve as an interface between the microelectronic readout system and the biological/chemical analyte. These electrodes are directly exposed to the analyte or an intermediate layer which will be described in Chapter 3 (Fig. 2.1). The sensing electrode can be realized by a standard CMOS process.

Capacitive Stretch Sensing for Robotic Skins
Soft Robotics, 2019Various types of artificial skins have been developed to provide robots with a sense of touch. Because of their compliance, dielectric elastomer (DE) capacitive sensors are particularly suitable for soft robots. Although the electrodes of DE sensors exhibit nonlinear effects such as transient resistance changes and resistance peaks, this does not ...

Label-free capacitance DNA sensing
2013 Seventh International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST), 2013This paper presents the use of direct capacitance measurements for label free hybridization detection of ssDNA immobilized directly on a gold interdigitated array of microelectrodes (IDAM). Thiol modified 18 bases long Poly-dT ssDNA molecules were immobilized on the Au IDAM surface without the use of any isolative self assembled monolayer (SAM ...

A Capacitance Humidity-Sensing Transducer
IEEE Transactions on Components, Hybrids, and Manufacturing Technology, 1979Recent improvements in the design of humidity-sensing transducers and the materials used in their construction have minimized many of the past limitations. A new capacitance humidity sensor is described that has a design, construction, and material composition that impart a unique combination of properties.

Capacitive proximity sensing hardware comparison
2019 IEEE 60th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON), 2019In this paper, different hardware solutions for proximity sensing are reviewed. The purpose of the review is to find the most accurate sensing method with the option to process raw data and to extend the system beyond one sensor. During the research proximity sensing system, derived from commercially available solutions, have been made.

Vital Sign Monitoring Using Capacitive Sensing
2018 40th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2018Unobtrusive vital sign monitoring is essential for most wearable monitoring applications. This paper presents a new method for unobtrusive vital sign monitoring based on the change in capacitance of passive sensors in contact with the user's body.
