Mechanical Characterization of the Erythrocyte Membrane Using a Capacitor-Based Technique

open access: yesMicromachines
Pathological processes often change the mechanical properties of cells. Increased rigidity could be a marker of cellular malfunction. Erythrocytes are a type of cell that deforms to squeeze through tiny capillaries; changes in their rigidity can ...

"Closed-loop" analysis of a thermo-charged capacitor

open access: yes, 2015
In this Letter, an explicit application of conservation of energy and zero net work principle around a closed path ("closed-loop" analysis) is carried out on a thermo-charged capacitor at equilibrium with ambient heat at uniform temperature.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

STUDY OF STARTING MODES OF SINGLE-PHASE INDUCTION MOTORS WHEN CHANGING THE PARAMETERS OF THE STATOR WINDINGS, PHASE-SHIFTING CAPACITOR AND SUPPLY VOLTAGE

open access: yesInformatyka, Automatyka, Pomiary w Gospodarce i Ochronie Środowiska
Single-phase induction motors (SPIM) are widely used in household appliances, agriculture, trade, medicine and other areas where a cheap unregulated electric drive powered by a single-phase AC network is required. They are produced in millions of pieces

Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.
