Sensitivity based capacitor placement: A comparative study

2011 6th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems, 2011
This paper presents a comparative study of two sensitivity based methods, namely loss sensitivity method and bus sensitivity method, for the optimal capacitor placement problem. The sizing of capacitors is done using the particle swarm optimization (PSO).

Optimal Capacitor Placement and Sizing in Distribution Networks

2020
Utilizing capacitor banks in order for local compensation of loads reactive power is common in distribution networks. Using capacitors has positive effects on networks such as power and energy loss reduction, voltage deviation and network harmonic reduction as well as improvement in network power factor. Capacitor placement is applied on the network in

The effect of harmonics on the optimal capacitor placement problem

2004 11th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power (IEEE Cat. No.04EX951), 2005
The effect of harmonics on reactive power compensation of radial distribution systems is studied In this work. The problem of optimal capacitor sizing and placement is solved for a nonuniform radial distribution system with lateral subfeeders with nonlinear loads distributed along the feeder.

Optimal capacitor placement on radial distribution systems

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1989
The problem of capacitor placement on a radial distribution system is formulated and a solution algorithm is proposed. The location, type, and size of capacitors, voltage constraints, and load variations are considered. The objective of capacitor placement is peak power and energy loss reduction, taking into account the cost of the capacitors.

Placement of decoupling capacitors on power transmission lines

2018 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility and 2018 IEEE Asia-Pacific Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC/APEMC), 2018
A method is proposed for efficient placement of decoupling capacitor on a power transmission line based on calculating the critical distance between device power pin and the capacitor. The critical distance is measured from the power pin and refers to the spacing for which the capacitor's effectiveness is reduced by a predefined amount with respect to ...

Capacitor placement in distribution systems, a new formulation

2003 IEEE Bologna Power Tech Conference Proceedings,, 2004
Two formulations of capacitor placement problem (CPP) are presented. One is based on capacitors/losses cost balance. The other is based on comprehensive cost evaluation of network performance post CP. GA based program is implemented to solve CPP. Proposed solution technique is tested on 69-bus system reported in the literature.

Soft Computing Techniques for Optimal Capacitor Placement

2014
Distribution system transfers electric energy from the transmission system to electric loads. Majority of losses in power system, i.e., nearly 10 %, occur in distribution system. Rigid distribution system infrastructure and rising load demand lead to increase in losses, thus, degrading the voltage profile.

Capacitor placements for distribution systems with fuzzy algorithm

Proceedings of TENCON'94 - 1994 IEEE Region 10's 9th Annual International Conference on: 'Frontiers of Computer Technology', 2002
Presents a fuzzy-based approach for capacitor placement in a distribution circuit. Two membership functions were defined for the voltage sensitivity and the real power loss. These membership functions greatly reduce the effort needed for finding the optimal locations via an exhaustive search.

The Impact of Capacitors Selection and Placement to the ESL and ESR

2005 International Symposium on Electronics Materials and Packaging, 2006
High frequency capacitors are used in the power delivery network for decoupling solution. From the impedance in frequency domain, those capacitors which are located near the load current provides the high frequency decoupling solution rather than the capacitors further away.

A review of capacitor placement techniques on distribution feeders

Proceedings The Twenty-Ninth Southeastern Symposium on System Theory, 2002
Optimal sizing and placement of shunt capacitors on distribution feeders has received considerable attention from researchers for many years. This paper presents an extensive review of the different solution methods found in the literature and is intended as a guide for those interested in the problem or intending to do additional research in the area.
