A Generalized Active Voltage Balancing Circuit Implementation for Flying Capacitor 3-Level Switching-Mode DC–DC Converters

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems
This paper presents a generalized control architecture for implementing the active balancing of the flying capacitor voltage in any kind of 3-level switching-mode DC-DC converters, independently from the desired conversion ratio or targeted output power ...

Capacitor voltage balancing strategies for flying capacitor converters

open access: yes, 2011
The capacitor voltage balancing is the main technical challenge of a multi-level Flying Capacitor Converter (FCC). The capacitor voltages of an FCC diverge from their nominal values, if not properly controlled by a closed-loop capacitor voltage balancing

Exploring an Alternative to mRNA Vaccine Cold Chain Storage: MRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticle Stability When Dried in a Polymer Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanostructure, size, and function of mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles are evaluated before drying, within polymer microneedles, and after rehydration. The results reveal the polymer and LNP loadings required to recover nanostructure and preserve the delivery performance in dry‐state formulations.

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

A Resonant Switched-Capacitor Converter for Voltage Balancing of Several Capacitors Connected in Series

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Industry Applications, 2009
This paper describes a resonant switched-capacitor converter (RSCC) for voltage balancing of several capacitor or battery modules connected in series. This voltage balancing circuit carries an electric charge between the capacitor modules with a soft switching operation, resulting in a reduction in power loss and EMI.

Development of a Power Factor Corrected High Current Supercapacitor Charger for a Surge Resistant UPS

open access: yes, 2012
The Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPSs) provide short term power back up to electrical loads when the mains power fail. Usually UPSs employ battery packs as the energy storage device.

Titanium Suboxides Responsible for Electronic Anomaly Near Room Temperature in the Ti3C2Tx MXene

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Our multi‐technique study reveals that the near‐room‐temperature anomaly in Ti3C2Tx MXene is linked to titanium suboxide nanodomains, including Ti3O5, embedded within the MXene host. Their temperature‐driven transformation provides an alternative explanation to solvent‐ and swelling‐based models and offers new insight into the thermally activated ...

Interfacial Adsorption Engineering Enables a Highly Utilized Zinc Anode With 99.9% Coulombic Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
When hydrated zinc ions are deposited onto Cu substrates at practical current densities, the modified Cu enables simultaneously compact zinc growth and suppressed hydrogen evolution. This regulatory effect originates from the superior adsorption of the modified Cu interface, which enhances zincophilicity and the hydrogen desorption barrier, thereby ...
