Capacity value assessments of wind power
This article describes some of the recent research into the capacity value of wind power. With the worldwide increase in wind power during the past several years, there is increasing interest and significance regarding its capacity value because this has a direct influence on the amount of other (nonwind) capacity that is needed.

The value of vulnerability: The transformative capacity of risky trust [PDF]
AbstractIn an experimental gift-exchange game, we explore the transformative capacity of vulnerable trust, which we define as trusting untrustworthy players when their untrustworthiness is common knowledge between co-players. In our experiment, there are two treatments: the “Information” treatment and the “No-Information” treatment in which we ...

Capacity Value of Wind Power [PDF]
Power systems are planned such that they have adequate generation capacity to meet the load, according to a defined reliability target. The increase in the penetration of wind generation in recent years has led to a number of challenges for the planning and operation of power systems. A key metric for generation system adequacy is the capacity value of

Capacity Value of Large Tidal Barrages [PDF]
This paper presents the first detailed capacity value calculation for tidal barrage generation, based on modeling of operational modes for the proposed 8-GW Severn Barrage scheme in Great Britain. The key finding is that the effective load carrying capability is very low as a percentage of installed capacity (less than 10% for the example presented ...

The values and rules of capacity assessments
This article advances two views on the role of evaluative judgment in clinical assessments of decision-making capacity. The first is that it is rationally impossible for such assessments to exclude judgments of the values a patient uses to motivate their decision-making.

Introduction: mental capacity and value neutrality [PDF]
Legal structures that stipulate when a person no longer has the right to make certain decisions for themselves often assign the concept of mental capacity a central role. In jurisdictions where this is the case, the concept of mental capacity is one of the main tools available to medical and care professionals and courts, to help them navigate the ...

The Energy Transition and the Value of Capacity Remuneration Mechanisms
Capacity Remuneration Mechanisms (CRM) can be used in power markets to overtake market failures, reaching security of supply. However, investment in capacity is a dynamic process, that depends on the evolution of prices and costs overtime. In our paper we study the capacity remuneration value through a CRM depending on three possible different ...

The valuative capacity of subshifts of finite type
The characteristic sequence of a subset E of the integers enable to generalize the factorial. The asymptotic limit of this sequence, called the valuative capacity, is actually related to the transfinite diameter of this set embedded into the set of p-adic integers. We use tools of potential theory to obtain formulas to compute this capacity.

Judging Values and Participation in Mental Capacity Law [PDF]
Judges face a challenging task in determining the weight that ought to be accorded to the person (P)’s values and testimony in judicial deliberation about her capacity and best interests under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). With little consensus emerging in judicial practice, incommensurable values drawn from divergent sources often collide in ...
