Economic Inquiry, 1989What is the return on a Stradivarius? The return equals the capital gain. The return on specific violin sales averages 2.17 percent. The best Stradivariuses were made in the “Golden Period.” Prices were significantly higher for Golden Period violins than for the other three periods examined.

American Journal of Agricultural Economics, 1992AbstractNet present value models are constructed by discounting the after‐tax cash flows of a challenging investment by the after‐tax internal rates of return (IRRs) of a defending investment. After‐tax IRRs calculated for a defending investment are shown to depend on the defender's capital gains and allowable depreciation.

Cambridge Journal of Economics, 2015This article estimates levels and identifies trends in the profitability of capital in a broad sample of developed, developing and post-communist transition economies making up over 80% of global output. The underlying distributional and efficiency determinants of profitability are considered in the Marxian analytical framework.
