Cumulative Early‐Life Adversities Predict Short‐ and Long‐Term Survival in a Critically Endangered Lemur (Propithecus verreauxi)

Infant survival of wild Verreaux's sifakas was impacted by different cumulative indices of early adversities. Of the single factors, maternal loss, large group size and the absence of an older sibling decreased the odds of survival across the lifespan. Adversities early in life have persistent negative long‐term effects on survival.

Leukocyte profiles reveal sex and age differences in immune investment in a polygynous bat

Analysis of over 500 blood cell profiles, including repeat samples over four years, reveals that male bats from a long‐lived species with a polygynous mating system invest more in innate than adaptive immunity. Investment in innate immunity increases with age, as estimated by a DNA methylation clock and mark‐recapture data.

Acorn caching hotspots of the Eurasian jay in pine plantations: Ecological basis for understorey management to assist oak regeneration

Our findings show that Eurasian jay dispersal activity depends on specific understorey structures when selecting caching microsites—particularly shrub cover and standing pines. These features could be directly shaped by management to promote assisted natural oak regeneration.
