UFMylation of NLRP3 Prevents Its Autophagic Degradation and Facilitates Inflammasome Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 15, April 17, 2025.
This article studies the role of UFMylation in NLRP3 inflammasome activation. It reveals that UFMylation, mediated by the E3 Ufm1‐ligase 1 (Ufl1), maintains NLRP3 stability by preventing its ubiquitination and subsequent autophagic degradation.

Astigmatism Associated with Allergic Conjunctivitis in Urban School Children

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Introduction. We first examined the association of an ocular refractive error with allergic conjunctivitis in school children and then examined this association in children attending a suburban school and an urban school. Methods. We enrolled 426 children attending a primary school in a suburban area and 550 children attending a primary school in an ...

Adipokines as Drug Targets in Diabetes and Underlying Disturbances

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Research, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Diabetes and obesity are worldwide health problems. White fat dynamically participates in hormonal and inflammatory regulation. White adipose tissue is recognized as a multifactorial organ that secretes several adipose‐derived factors that have been collectively termed “adipokines.” Adipokines are pleiotropic molecules that gather factors such as ...

Bridging Breeding and Biotechnology for Tomato Resilience in Semi‐Arid Regions

open access: yesAdvances in Agriculture, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Tomatoes are global crops, valued for their nutritional content and economic importance. It is vital to grow resilient tomato varieties that meet environmental challenges and consumer expectations to meet tomato demand. Semi‐arid areas expand due to climate change, yet they are becoming significant for food growth due to the growing population, which ...

Optical coherence tomography assessment of disease activity in cryopyrin‐associated periodic syndrome

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 31, Issue 7, July 2024.
Abstract Background and purpose Cryopyrin‐associated periodic syndrome is a rare autoinflammatory disease caused by gain‐of‐function mutations or variants in the NLRP3 gene. Clinically, patients suffer from a broad spectrum of both systemic and neurological symptoms.

Emission Characteristics of Greenhouse Gases and Air Pollutants in Northern Hemisphere Cities: Comprehensive Assessment Using Ground‐Based Fourier Transform Spectrometers

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 129, Issue 12, 28 June 2024.
Abstract Despite the importance of understanding the urban emission characteristics of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and air pollutants, few studies have conducted integrated assessments across diverse urban environments. Herein, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the emission characteristics of GHGs and air pollutants in seven cities in the Northern

Anti‐inflammatory effect of Trichospira verticillata via suppression of the NLRP3 inflammasome in neutrophilic asthma

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 28, Issue 8, April 2024.
Abstract Trichospira verticillata is an annual herb that belongs to the family Asteraceae. Trichospira verticillata extract (TVE) elicits anti‐plasmodial activity; however, there has been no detailed report about its anti‐inflammatory effects and molecular mechanisms. In addition, herbal plants exhibit anti‐inflammatory effects by suppressing the NLRP3
