Oviposition Behaviour, Nymphal Development and Below‐Ground Olfactory Preference of Pentastiridius leporinus on 12 Beta vulgaris Genotypes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The planthopper Pentastiridius leporinus (Hemiptera: Cixiidae) is the primary vector of two phloem‐restricted prokaryotes, which can cause the disease syndrome de basses richesses (SBR) in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.). Heavy infestations of this insect have contributed to significant yield losses in Central Europe, but little is known about ...

Non‐native pink salmon Oncorhynchus gorbuscha carcasses benefit native benthic macroinvertebrates

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The invasion of the North Atlantic by pink salmon Oncorhynchus gorbuscha has raised concerns regarding their impact on coastal rivers. Although the influence of marine‐derived nutrients from returning adult O. gorbuscha on rivers in their native range has received much attention, the ecological consequences of invasive O.

Phacoemulsification using iris-hooks for capsular support in high myopic patient with subluxated lens and secondary angle closure glaucoma

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2006
We report an unusual case of angle closure glaucoma in a 78-year-old highly myopic female patient. The patient did not show any preoperative signs of subluxation of lens. However, the capsular bag was noted to be unstable during surgery.

High trophic niche overlap between sympatric peacock basses (Cichliformes: Cichlidae: Cichla): Concordant findings from three dietary analysis methods

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Dietary analysis has contributed to our understanding of animal niches, interspecific interactions, community structure and the flow of matter and energy in food webs. We employed three methods of dietary analysis to estimate trophic niche overlap between two peacock bass species, Cichla cataractae and Cichla ocellaris, across sympatric ...

Analysis of Essential Minerals and Heavy Metals in Canine and Feline Dietary Supplements Marketed in the United States

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Heavy metals have been documented in dietary supplements for people and animals. Cadmium, selenium, lead, and mercury are of particular concern. Our objective was to determine the concentrations of five essential minerals and 12 heavy metals in 70 canine and feline dietary supplements, and to evaluate potential toxicity risks.

Intrascleral fixation of standard capsular tension ring: a modified-simple technique for managing moderate and severe subluxated lens extraction

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Ophthalmology
Background: Moderate-to-severe lens subluxation poses surgical challenges due to extensive zonular weakness and the need to maintain stable intraocular lens (IOL) positioning while preserving the capsular bag.

Holdfast adhesion in the kelp Alaria marginata: Cell wall polysaccharides and phenolics

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract Adhesion is a critical process in the survival of seaweeds, especially in wave‐swept environments. Kelp (Laminariales) sporophytes secrete adhesives from specialized rhizoid cells to anchor themselves to the substrate and withstand immense forces applied by waves.

Schematic diagrams of the surgical techniques of capsular bag reestablishment and in-the-bag IOL implantation via secondary capsulorhexis with RFD.

open access: yes, 2013
A, We used sodium hyaluronate to maintain the anterior chamber of an aphakic eye with a doughnut-like, extensive Soemmering ring. B, The RF tip was inserted into the anterior chamber to cut the anterior fibrotic capsule with coagulation energy, and the ...

Evidence for regulation of transpiration in nonstomatal plants: insights from bryophyte gametophytes

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Kinetics of cell wall water vapor potential (Ψcw) and resistance of cell wall and plasmatic membrane to water flux in response to cytoplasmic water potential (Ψcyt) during dehydration. Ψcyt was calculated from the WC at any moment of the dehydration curve by using the relationship between −1/Ψw and WC of pressure volume curves and assuming Ψw = Ψcyt ...
