Protective Effects of Riociguat Against Contrast‐Induced Nephropathy: An Experimental and Machine Learning‐Based Study in Rats

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Contrast‐induced nephropathy (CIN) is an important cause of acute kidney injury following exposure to iodinated contrast media, and effective preventive strategies remain limited. This study investigated the renoprotective effects of riociguat, a soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator, in an experimental rat model of CIN and explored machine ...

Capsule-augmented scleral fixation of intraocular lenses

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology
In-the-bag placement of intraocular lenses (IOLs) generally yields optimal results in terms of alignment and minimizes decentration or tilt. However, this approach can be counterproductive if the capsular bag is compromised, potentially leading to IOL ...

Short-term study of intraocular lens position changes using ultrasound biomicroscopy in high myopia

open access: yesDelta Journal of Ophthalmology, 2018
Purpose The aim of this work was to study the performance of the implanted one-piece versus three-piece intraocular lenses (IOLs) in relation to the dimension of the capsular bag of the highly myopic eyes.

Effect of population reinforcement method, site, and plant characteristics on early establishment of the rare endemic plant species Minuartia smejkalii

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Many habitat‐specialist plant species have been endangered by fragmentation or destruction of their habitats. Minuartia smejkalii is a serpentinophyte endemic to the Czech Republic. It is highly threatened by recent habitat destruction and fragmentation, calling for effective conservation measures.

Dicrananthera hedyotidea C. Presl. (Melastomataceae) in Maranhão state, Brazil: first record and ecological niche model of the species

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Dicrananthera C. Presl. is a monospecific genus of the tribe Marcetieae, comprising perennial herbs typically occurring in areas adjacent to wetlands. The species exhibits a disjunct distribution, with confirmed records in both the Amazon and Atlantic Forest domains.

Pretreatment Effects of Conventional and Reactive Extrusion on LLDPE Waste Pyrolysis

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Schematic overview of the pyrolysis study using original and pretreated LLDPE waste samples. Pretreatment was performed via twin‐screw extrusion at 450°C: without additives (REX), with peroxide (REX‐RO2), or with polypropylene (REX–PP). All four samples underwent pyrolysis at 450°C–475°C for 15–45 min.

Leaf penetration by endophytic Metarhizium brunneum enables infection of Phthorimaea absoluta in tomato mines while inducing the crop defense system

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Spraying Metarhizium brunneum on tomato plants controls heterogeneous and upcoming Phthorimaea absoluta populations by infecting larvae within mines and priming plant induced systemic defences. Abstract BACKGROUND The endophytic entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium brunneum Petch EAMa 01/58‐Su shows strong potential for managing Phthorimaea absoluta, a ...

Implementation of a capsular bag model to enable sufficient lens stabilization within a mechanical eye model

open access: yes, 2022
Paper 93071S, 10 S.Cataract still remains the leading cause of blindness affecting 20 million people worldwide. To restore the patients vision the natural lens is removed and replaced by an intraocular lens (IOL). In modern cataract surgery the posterior
