Treatment of subglandular capsular contracture
Operative Techniques in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2000Capsular contracture remains one of the most difficult problems associated with augmentation mammaplasty and is a leading cause of reoperation and patient dissatisfaction. This article outlines several variables that may contribute to development of grades III and IV contractures.

Prevention of Capsular Contracture Using Leukotriene Antagonists
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2015Capsular contracture is a common occurrence in plastic surgery, with a prevalence varying from 0.5 percent up to 30 percent. Although the standard treatment is capsulectomy, alternative treatments have been studied, such as the use of leukotriene inhibitors. These drugs have recently been evaluated in the prophylaxis of contracture.

Surgical Treatment for Capsular Contracture: A New Paradigm and Algorithm
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2020Background: Capsular contracture following breast augmentation is prone to recurrence with conventional surgical therapy. Adding acellular dermal matrix improves results but significantly increases operating time and cost.

Capsular Contracture Simulating Myocardial Infarction on ECG
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1993A patient is presented with severe bilateral class IV capsular contractures who presented 16 years after prepectoral breast augmentation with a "septal infarct" pattern on ECG. This abnormal ECG proved to be an artifact caused by unavoidable misplacement of the V2 and V3 leads because of the severe capsular contracture.

Postirradiation Capsular Contracture in Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction: Management and Outcome
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2020Background: Implant-based breast reconstruction is commonly avoided in the setting of radiation therapy, mainly because of risks of capsular contracture.

Pirfenidone Prevents Capsular Contracture After Mammary Implantation
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2007Pirfenidone (PFD), a new antifibrotic and antiinflammatory agent, prevents and resolves fibrous tissue. This study evaluated the effect of PFD on adverse events in mammary implants using an animal model. Mammary implantation, the most frequent aesthetic surgery, may present several complications after surgery such as swelling, capsule contracture ...

Capsular Contracture: Hard Breasts, Soft Data
Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 1988Fibrous capsular contracture is by far the most common cause of unsatisfactory results following augmentation mammaplasty. This article reviews the evidence for its various proposed etiologies, the techniques advocated for its prevention, and the procedures currently available for its correction.

Capsular contracture and silicone gel: Experimental study
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 1992Wistar rats were used to study the effects, if any, of membrane thickness and implant volume of a silicone gel prosthesis on the development of fibrous capsule contraction. A total of 30 miniprosthesis with three different membrane thicknesses and two different volumes were implanted in the subcutaneous space of five animals.
