Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Non-aqueous titrimetric assay of gabapentin in capsules using perchloric acid as titrant [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Industry and Chemical Engineering Quarterly, 2011
Two simple, rapid, accurate and inexpensive methods using visual and potentiometric titrimetric techniques are described for the determination of gabapentin (GBP) in bulk drug as well as in capsules.

The lens capsule [PDF]

open access: yesExperimental Eye Research, 2009
The lens capsule is a modified basement membrane that completely surrounds the ocular lens. It is known that this extracellular matrix is important for both the structure and biomechanics of the lens in addition to providing informational cues to maintain lens cell phenotype.

Flow of pH-responsive microcapsules in porous media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This article investigates the use micro-capsules, containing a gelling agent hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), to alter flow paths in porous media. The aim is to preferentially block-off high permeability regions, thereby diverting the flow into adjacent un-

Crosslinked agarose encapsulated sorbents resistant to steam sterilization. Preparation and mechanical properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The application of agarose in hemoperfusion is hampered by the lack of a suitable sterilization method. A technique has been developed for the crosslinking of agarose encapsulated sorbents by the reaction with 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol (DCP) under strong ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

AGEs in human lens capsule promote the TGFβ2-mediated EMT of lens epithelial cells:Implications for age-associated fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Proteins in basement membrane (BM) are long-lived and accumulate chemical modifications during aging; advanced glycation end-product (AGE) formation is one such modification. The human lens capsule is a BM secreted by lens epithelial cells. In this study,
