Vacuum capsulorhexis

A new method of performing continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis is described. It involves the use of a fine point of suction applied to the torn flap of anterior capsule through a fine cannula. This technique offers excellent control of the tear and requires no viscoelastic to maintain the anterior chamber.

Capsulorhexis in intumescent cataract

This technique of anterior capsulorhexis is for use in eyes with high intralenticular pressure and absence of red reflex as encountered in intumescent cataract. The initial steps of fashioning the anterior capsular flap and lens decompression are done under the microscope's high magnification and noncoaxial oblique illumination.

Three patients who presented with a milky fluid in the space between the posterior surface of implanted intraocular lens (IOL) and the anterior surface of the distended posterior capsular bag are described. The patients were followed and were noted to have changes in their benign course after several years.

Suction posterior capsulorhexis

A technique for creating a posterior capsulorhexis during phacoemulsification is presented. It can be used in cases with posterior capsule tears or opacities. The free edge of the capsule is grasped with suction using a 2 mL syringe and a 27 gauge Rycroft cannula introduced via the paracentesis.
