Antagonistic effect of helpers on breeding male and female survival in a cooperatively breeding bird. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
1. Cooperatively breeding species are typically long lived and hence, according to theory, are expected to maximize their lifetime reproductive success through maximizing survival.

The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) as an ally for the control of the invasive yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2237-2247, April 2025.
The predatory effect of the honey‐buzzard affects the reproductive performance of Asian‐hornet colonies, decreasing the density of workers over distance and time. The foraging distances of the honey‐buzzard concentrates within the first 2000 m from nest, which supports the results observed.

Non-invasive genetic approaches for estimation of ungulate population size: a study on roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) based on faeces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Estudios genéticos no invasivos, para la estimación del tamaño de una población de ungulados: estudio sobre el corzo (Capreolus capreolus) basado en sus heces La estimación de los tamaños de población es particularmente difícil en las especies de ...

Full Open Population Capture-Recapture Models with Individual Covariates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Traditional analyses of capture-recapture data are based on likelihood functions that explicitly integrate out all missing data. We use a complete data likelihood (CDL) to show how a wide range of capture-recapture models can be easily fitted using ...

Blinking Optical Tweezers for Atom Rearrangements

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
The work introduces an energy‐efficient method for holding and rearranging an N ×$\times$ M array of atoms using only N optical tweezers, using just 1M of the optical power per atom. In the proof‐of‐concept experiments, single blinking tweezer holds M = 9 atoms and further facilitates rearrangement M = 4 ∼$\sim$ 5 atoms in various configurations ...

Estimating Abundance of Adult Trachemys scripta with Camera Traps: Accuracy, Precision and Probabilities of Capture for a Closed Population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Low and variable rates of capture are common problems when estimating abundance of freshwater turtles with capture-mark-recapture (CMR). We speculated camera traps would allow us to obtain reliable estimates of abundance by re-sighting marked Trachemys ...

Trapping and relocating seals from salmonid fish farms in Tasmania, 1990-2000: was it a success? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In an effort to reduce the impact of seals on fish farms, the trapping and relocation of seals at Tasmanian salmonid farms began in 1990. To the end of May 2000,353 identified individual seals had been trapped in 672 capture events.
