Capturing Industrial Machinery into Virtual Reality
2018In this paper we set out to find a new technical and commercial solution to easily acquire a virtual model of existing machinery for visualisation in a VR environment. To this end we introduce an image-based scanning approach with an initial focus on a monocular (handheld) capturing device such as a portable camera.

Material capture and representation with applications in virtual reality
ACM SIGGRAPH 2017 Courses, 2017Currently, rendering systems are able to produce photorealistic simulations of the appearance of many real-world materials. In the real world, viewer perception of objects depends on the lighting and object/material/surface characteristics, the way a surface interacts with the light and on how the light is reflected, scattered, absorbed by the surface ...

Consumer-Level Virtual Reality Motion Capture
2017Virtual Reality (VR) is creating a new paradigm in humans’ communication. Today, we can enter in a virtual environment and interact with each other through 3D characters. However, VR headsets occlude user’s face, limiting the Motion Capture (MoCap) of facial expressions and, thus, limiting the introduction of this non-verbal component.
