Freeze‐cast porous alumina tubes for membrane applications: Role of niobium pentoxide in microstructure and gas transport properties

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Freeze‐cast alumina tubes doped with Nb2O5 exhibit aligned and hierarchical porosity, enabling high gas permeance. Nb2O5 promotes liquid‐phase sintering and formation of the AlNbO4 secondary phase, enhancing mechanical strength. The resulting porous supports are suitable for membrane‐based gas separation applications.

An Eco‐Friendly Method of BaTiO3 Nanoparticle Synthesis Using Coconut Water

open access: yesJournal of Nanomaterials, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
BaTiO3 nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by a new coconut water‐based sol–gel method using Ba(CH3COO)2 and TiCl3 as the starting salts. The influence of the amount of coconut water and calcination conditions on the barium titanate crystallization was investigated.

Scaling the effects of size and temperature on animal consumption rates from individuals to populations in a subtropical reef fish

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 12, Page 3385-3395, December 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Measuring how temperature and body size drive individual consumption rates is fundamental to predict how climate change might shape population‐level consumption pressure. Yet, such measurements remain rare.

Microclimate refugia shape microclimatic niches and predict individual variability in post‐breeding migration in a partially migratory species

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 94, Issue 12, Page 2527-2541, December 2025.
The niche is characterized along a gradient of temperature and microclimate refugia. Individuals in breeding areas with low microclimate refugia availability are more likely to cover larger distances to post‐breeding areas, increasing exposure to risks.

Optical and Electrical Characterization of Er/Yb‐Doped Porous Silicon for Advanced Photovoltaic Applications

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), Volume 222, Issue 22, November 2025.
Doping porous silicon with erbium and ytterbium, followed by thermal oxidation, boosts its near‐infrared absorption by up to 300%. While new silicates form, the bandgap remains stable. This enhanced absorption, coupled with improved charge transfer from impedance data, positions the doped material as a highly promising candidate for developing more ...

Small Seismic Sources to Improve Survey Efficiency at Reduced Environmental Impact: Case Study From the Brazilian Pre‐Salt

open access: yesGeophysical Prospecting, Volume 73, Issue 9, November 2025.
ABSTRACT In Brazil, concerns about marine life have resulted in strong restrictions on seismic operations, with a minimum distance of 60 km between source vessels and an exclusion zone of 1000 m for marine mammals. These restrictions impact survey efficiency, duration, logistics and cost. Optimized and physically smaller seismic sources may reduce cost
