Combined high leaf hydraulic safety and efficiency provides drought tolerance in Caragana species adapted to low mean annual precipitation. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol, 2021
Summary Clarifying the coordination of leaf hydraulic traits with gas exchange across closely‐related species adapted to varying rainfall can provide insights into plant habitat distribution and drought adaptation. The leaf hydraulic conductance (Kleaf), stomatal conductance (gs), net assimilation (A), vein embolism and abscisic acid (ABA ...

The Phylogenomic Framework and Infrageneric Classification of Temperate Asian Caraganeae (Leguminosae, Papilionoideae). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
A phylogenomic framework of the temperate Asian tribe Caraganeae, and the revision to the infrageneric delimitations in the genus Caragana were proposed. Our results revealed that Caraganeae is monophyletic, but phylogenetic discordance in tree topology between the complete chloroplast genome and nuclear ribosomal DNA dataset were identified at both ...

Building a robust backbone for Astragalus using a clade-specific target enrichment bait set. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Bot
Abstract Premise With over 3100 species, Astragalus L. (Fabaceae) has long fascinated botanists as the largest genus of flowering plants. With an origin in the Middle Miocene, Astragalus has one of the highest diversification rates known in flowering plants.

A simple and cost‐effective direct transmethylation procedure for plant lipid analysis

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 521-528, July 2023., 2023
Abstract Measuring acyl lipid content and fatty acid composition is important in plant lipid research, and direct transmethylation followed by analysis with gas chromatography‐flame ionization detection has been broadly used in various studies. However, many existing protocols are time‐consuming and labor‐intensive, and the long reaction time under ...

Quantifying past, current, and future forest carbon stocks within agroforestry systems in central Alberta, Canada

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 669-680, June 2022., 2022
Regional‐level carbon (C) stocks in agroforestry systems and the annual loss of agroforests and associated C stocks are poorly understood, limiting our capacity for increasing C sequestration through establishing, retaining, and enhancing these systems.

Examining the utility of DNA barcodes for the identification of tallgrass prairie flora

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 9, Issue 1, January 2021., 2021
Premise The tallgrass prairies of North America are one of the most threatened ecosystems in the world, making efficient species identification essential for understanding and managing diversity. Here, we assess DNA barcoding with high‐throughput sequencing as a method for rapid plant species identification.

An updated phylogeny and adaptive evolution within Amaranthaceae s.l. inferred from multiple phylogenomic datasets. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Our results strongly demonstrated that Amaranthaceae s.l. was clustered with monophyletic traditional Chenopodiaceae (Clades I and II) and Amaranthaceae s.s. based on multiple phylogenomic datasets. Phylogenetic analysis of adaptive evolution showed that positively selected genes played a driving role in the evolutionary direction of Amaranthaceae s.l.

Flowering of siberian peashrub (Caragana arborescens Lam.) and its forage value to pollinating insects

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2014
Under the conditions of Lublin (central-eastern Poland), observations were conducted on the flowering of Caragana arborescens shrubs for two growth seasons as well as nectar and pollen production by the flowers of this species was investigated.

Evolutionary response of Caragana (Fabaceae) to Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau uplift and Asian interior aridification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Caragana is endemic to temperate Asia, with most species distributed on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP) and in Northwestern China. Consequently its biogeography should be hypothesized to have been affected by QTP uplift.

The chloroplasts genomic analyses of Caragana arborescens and Caragana opulens

open access: yes, 2023
Abstract Background Numerous species within the genus Caragana have high ecological and medicinal value. In this genus, however, species identification based on morphological characteristics is quite complicated; this issue can be resolved by analyzing the complete plastid genomes.
