This paper illustrates the dependence of tortoise carapace's hardness and elastic modulus on peak-load of nanoindentation tests. Sulcata Tortoise carapace is a sandwich-like structure consisting of four submicron layers: keratin scutes, dorsal cortex, cancellous interior (porous layer) and ventral cortex.
