Distance estimation in the Goldfish ( Carassius auratus )
Abstract Neurophysiological advances have given us exciting insights into the systems responsible for spatial mapping in mammals. However, we are still lacking information on the evolution of these systems and whether the underlying mechanisms identified are universal across phyla, or specific to the species studied ...

Gill Sphaerosporosis in Goldfish (Carassius auratus) [PDF]
Infections caused by a Sphaerospora sp. resembling S. chinensis are reported for the first time in goldfish (Carassius auratus) from North America. The myxosporean was found in the respiratory epithelium of the gill of pond-reared fish. Spores from stained tissue sections were spherical with an equal mean length and width of 6.3 microns.

The reasons for successful spreading of the fishes from the genus Carassius
Freshwater fishes of the genus Carassius are widespread throughout home Eurasia but also other continents (Kottelat and Feryhof, 2007). They represent important aquaculture fishes and include the world's most important pet fish, the goldfish (Rylková et ...

Hoferellosis in goldfish Carassius auratus and gibel carp Carassius auratus gidelio
Hoferellus carassii is a common parasite of goldfish Carassius auratus and gibel carp C. auratus gibelio. Early trophozoite stages of H. carassii were found intracellularly, in epithelial cells of renal tubules. Plasmodial stages, however, had a coelozoic way of life, inhabiting the lumen of renal tubules, ureters and preferentially the urinary bladder.

PCR survey of hox genes in the goldfish Carassius auratus auratus [PDF]
AbstractA tetraploidization event took place in the cyprinid lineage leading to goldfishes about 15 million years ago. A PCR survey for Hox genes in the goldfish Carassius auratus auratus (Actinopterygii: Cyprinidae) was performed to assess the consequences of this genome duplication.
