Carbide grain growth in cemented carbides

Acta Materialia, 2011
Abnormal grain growth is often observed in cemented carbides during sintering, but cannot be understood in terms of the classical LSW theory.

Processing of silicon carbide–boron carbide–aluminium composites

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2009
Abstract The aim of this work was to shed light on the wetting mechanism in the SiC–B 4 C–Al system and to explore processing routes that enable infiltration of Al alloys into these ceramic powder mixtures without the formation of the deleterious reaction product Al 4 C 3 .

Reinforcement of tungsten carbide grains by nanoprecipitates in cemented carbides

Nanotechnology, 2016
In contrast to the conventional method that obtains a high fracture strength of tungsten carbide-cobalt (WC-Co) cemented carbides by reducing WC grain size to near-nano or nanoscale, a new approach has been developed to achieve ultrahigh fracture strength by strengthening the WC grains through precipitate reinforcement.
