Metabolic and biochemical profiling reveals phenotypic heterogeneity in Zucker diabetic fatty rats

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Genetically uniform Zucker Diabetic Fatty (ZDF) rats spontaneously develop four distinct metabolic phenotypes despite identical housing and diet conditions. Each phenotype exhibits unique biomarker signatures encompassing glucose homeostasis, insulin secretion, polyol pathway activation, oxidative stress, inflammatory cytokines, and neurotrophic ...

Characterization of three 2-hydroxy-acid dehydrogenases in the context of a biotechnological approach to short-circuit photorespiration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Photorespiration results from the incorporation of oxygen into ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate due to the failure of RuBisCO to properly discriminate between oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Emerging role of the pentose phosphate pathway in hepatocellular carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In recent years, there has been a revival of interest in metabolic changes of cancer cells as it has been noticed that malignant transformation and metabolic reprogramming are closely intertwined.

Technobiological Pathways for High‐CO₂ Capture Using Micro‐/Macroalgae: Genetic Engineering, Process Automation, and Value‐Added Bioproducts

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have emerged as one of the most critical drivers of climate change; this is primarily due to high concentrations and long atmospheric life of carbon dioxide (CO2). For a significant amount of time, various biological processes such as microalgal cultivation, cyanobacterial systems, photosynthetic microorganisms ...

Growth Hormone Promotes Lipolysis and Impairs Insulin Sensitivity by Activating the ERK/HSL Signaling Pathway in Bovine Adipocytes

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study was to evaluate the role of GH in lipolysis and insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes and clarify the underlying mechanism. Our findings demonstrate that GH activates ERK/HSL signaling pathway, promotes lipolysis, and impairs insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes.

Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of the ADH gene family under diverse stresses in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.)

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background Alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) are the crucial enzymes that can convert ethanol into acetaldehyde. In tobacco, members of ADH gene family are involved in various stresses tolerance reactions, lipid metabolism and pathways related to plant ...

Exploring the Roles of Tuna‐Associated Acinetobacter sp. YFT067: Implications for Host Health and Metabolism

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study firstly isolated a tuna‐derived gut probiotic Acinetobacter seifertii YFT067. Dietary administration of YFT067 played significant roles in promoting growth performance, SCFAs production, lipid absorption, and metabolism of the host, indicating YFT067 as a promising probiotic candidate for enhancing tuna aquaculture productivity through ...

Genetic Locus and Structural Characterization of the Biochemical Defect in the O-Antigenic Polysaccharide of the Symbiotically Deficient \u3cem\u3eRhizobium etli\u3c/em\u3e Mutant, CE166 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The O-antigen polysaccharide (OPS) of Rhizobium etli CE3 lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is linked to the core oligosaccharide via an N-acetylquinovosaminosyl (QuiNAc) residue.

A Carbohydrate-Rich Diet Stimulates Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Expression in Rat Hepatic Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 1999
A carbohydrate-rich diet induces glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) in liver parenchymal cells, which supports fatty acid synthesis de novo. Bacterial endotoxins stimulate G6PD expression in hepatic sinusoidal endothelial and Kupffer cells but not in parenchymal cells.

Heat Stress and Gut Microbiome Dynamics in Poultry: Interplay, Consequences, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts gut microbial balance in poultry, impairing nutrient absorption and immunity. This review outlines the interplay between thermal stress and microbiome dynamics and discusses integrative mitigation strategies, probiotics, phytogenics, cooling systems, and genetic adaptation to enhance poultry resilience.
