The Evaluation of Carbon Blacks
Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1929Abstract In conclusion, it is shown that the “Delta A function” provides an instrument for the classification of carbon blacks as regards their usefulness to the rubber compounder. It is an index of widely inclusive character and not only indicates performance at optimum concentration, but also the range of effectiveness.

Microstructure of Carbon Black
Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1964Abstract Although the microstructure of carbon black has been under investigation for more than fifty years, there are still many aspects which are controversial and some which are virtually unexplored. The inherently low degree of crystallinity and the finely-divided state of carbon blacks have greatly hindered efforts to understand them.

Characteristics of carbon blacks
Pigment & Resin Technology, 1972The various methods of manufacture of carbon blacks are considered, and the effects that the methods have on such properties as structure and agglomeration are ...

Abstract The determination of pore sizes and pore size distribution of carbon blacks by the t curve procedure requires a nonporous reference material with a heterogeneous surface. It could be shown that treatment of a fine thermal black with methane at 1050°C. leads to such a standard.

This paper is concerned with the structure of extremely small crystallites of carbon deposited upon silica by the pyrolysis of methane. Electron diffraction patterns have been obtained from more than 100 carbon films, from some by the reflection method, and from others by transmission after removing the films from their supports with hydrofluoric acid.

Distribution of Carbon Black in SBR [PDF]
Abstract The interparticle distance between black aggregates in rubber was estimated by Fraunhofer diffraction with the mask of an electron micrograph of filled rubber. Up to 40 phr, the distribution of interpartiele distance has a sharp peak centered at 8000 A˚ with 20 phr and at 7000 A˚ with 40 phr.

Abstract The importance of different types of colloidal carbon as reinforcing agents for the butadiene-styrene copolymer, GR-S, has been stressed in recent papers. It has been shown that, to a first approximation, the effect of carbon blacks in this type of synthetic rubber is similar to that in natural rubber, but it has been shown also that ...

This chapter deals with processes which yield clearly defined end products and for which the English term "carbon black" has been adopted in many countries. Carbon black can be ranked as being one of the oldest manufactured products and its usage as a pigment for the production of India inks and mural paints can be traced back to the ancient Chinese ...
