A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Combustion of biomass as a global carbon sink [PDF]
This note is intended to highlight the important role of black carbon produced from biomass burning in the global carbon cycle, and encourage further research in this area. Consideration of the fundamental physical chemistry of cellulose thermal decomposition suggests that suppression of biomass burning or biasing burning practices to produce soot-free

This study explores a process chain to produce dispersoid‐strengthened CuCr1Zr for applications requiring high strength and conductivity. Using gas‐atomized powder and copper‐plated alumina nanoparticles, additive manufacturing is performed via powder bed based additive manufacturing with green and red lasers, followed by heat treatment.

129Xe-NMR of carbon black filled elastomers
It is shown that 129Xe-NMR is a powerful tool to investigate carbon black and carbon black filled elastomers. For the carbon black material itself the129Xe chemical shift of xenon adsorbed at the surface of carbon black aggregates yields information ...

Noninvasive identification of carbon-based black pigments with pump-probe microscopy [PDF]
Carbon-based black pigments, a widely used class of pigments, are difficult to differentiate with the noninvasive techniques currently used in cultural heritage science. We utilize pump-probe microscopy to distinguish four common carbon-based black pigments as pure pigments, as two-component black pigment mixtures, and as a mixture of a black and a ...

Revealing the Nanostructure of Mesoporous Fuel Cell Catalyst Supports for Durable, High-Power Performance [PDF]
Achieving high power performance and durability with low Pt loadings are critical challenges for proton exchange membrane fuel cells. PtCo catalysts developed on new carbon black supports show promise by simultaneously providing good oxygen reduction kinetics and local oxygen transport. We investigate the role of nanoscale morphology in the performance

This perspective article explores an innovative powder metallurgical approach to producing high‐nitrogen steels by utilizing a mixture of stainless steel and Si3N4. This mixture undergoes hot isostatic pressing followed by direct quenching. The article also examines adapting this method to laser powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB/M) to overcome nitrogen ...
