The carbon budget of the North Sea [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2005
A carbon budget has been established for the North Sea, a shelf sea on the NW European continental shelf. The carbon exchange fluxes with the North Atlantic Ocean dominate the gross carbon budget.

Advanced Separators for Liquid and Quasi‐Solid Lithium Rechargeable Batteries: Design and Development

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review traces the evolution of lithium‐ion battery separators from passive barriers to multifunctional components central to cell safety and performance. Polymer‐ceramic hybrids, nanofiber architectures, and bio‐derived membranes deliver ionic conductivities above 3 mS cm−1, thermal stability beyond 200 °C, and effective suppression of lithium ...

Enforcing the climate change act [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper examines the enforceability of the duties in the Climate Change Act 2008 which require the UK’s GHG emissions to be reduced over time. Section B highlights how the Act’s other provisions must be interpreted so as to give proper support to ...

Impact of Oxygen Plasma Pre‐Treatment on Thermal Oxidation and Reliability of SiO2 on 4H‐SiC

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We investigate how oxygen plasma pre‐treatment affects the thermal oxidation of silicon carbide. While plasma modification increases growth rates by 84%, it reduces dielectric breakdown strength by 18%. Our findings reveal that although plasma improves the interface state density, it introduces structural damage, highlighting a critical trade‐off ...

Evaluation of modelling approaches for predicting the spatial distribution of soil organic carbon stocks at the national scale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays a major role in the global carbon budget. It can act as a source or a sink of atmospheric carbon, thereby possibly influencing the course of climate change.

Plasma‐Sequence‐Engineered Atomic Layer Deposition of Ultra‐Thin SiNx for Enhanced Etching Resistance in Extreme Ultraviolet Pellicles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Plasma‐sequence‐engineered ALD (PSE‐ALD), based on sequential NH3 and N2 plasma pulses, enables ultrathin, dense SiNx films. ToF‐MS analysis confirms ligand removal via HCl evolution, while increased film density indicates network densification. The resulting SiNx coating provides robust protection of graphite under H2 plasma exposure.

Carbon budget concept and its deviation through the pulse response lens [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Dynamics
The carbon budget concept states that the global mean temperature (GMT) increase is roughly linearly dependent on cumulative emissions of CO2. The proportionality is measured as the transient climate response to cumulative emissions of carbon dioxide ...

Committed emissions from existing energy infrastructure jeopardize 1.5 °C climate target. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Net anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) must approach zero by mid-century (2050) in order to stabilize the global mean temperature at the level targeted by international efforts1-5.
